Introduction to Prosthetic Joint Infection

Abstract

Infections involving the prosthetic joint are considered one of the most challenging infections to diagnose and manage in the practice of disease infection. Such challenges arise because of the presence of biofilm which hampers all aspects of care. Prosthetic joint infection requires a multidisciplinary approach for diagnosis and management with combined orthopaedic, microbiological, and infectious diseases input. Understanding the optimal approach to diagnosis, management, and prevention of prosthetic joint infection is rapidly evolving.
