Introduction: faith traditions in unprecedented times

The world is besieged by manifold grand challenges which pose fundamental challenges to the socio-economic fabric of the global economy. These grand challenges are evaluative and dynamic in nature and constitute radical uncertainty for organizations. Tackling these challenges has been traditionally seen as a managerial/scientific problem. However, in recent times it has been propounded that addressing these systemic challenges may be enhanced by incorporating the role of religious/philosophical paradigms. This would help to steer management thinking away from the singular focus on economic profits to new frameworks of collectivism and other-focused orientation. The edited volume contributes to this critical yet under-explored area by analysing how different religious traditions can act as a moral bulwark and contribute to the creation of new forms of coping mechanisms and explanatory frameworks to deal with the unprecedented challenges that we face in the twenty-first century.
