Abstract
The light transmission method of measuring interfacial areas in agitated vessels is compared with the chemical method. The chemical method is seen to y A possible explanation for this discrepancy, based on large mass transfer coefficients in the impeller region, is advanced. A consequence of these larg not sufficiently enhanced near the impeller region. This then implies that the rate is not independent of hydrodynamics in the impeller region.
