Abstract

This paper combines insights from the sustainability transitions literature and second wave institutional theory, and proposes a preliminary conceptual framework that offers some initial suggestions as to how various institutional change mechanisms may unfold and interact over the course of a transition. The framework identifies mechanisms of institutional change that may help bring about cultural, structural and practice change.
