Abstract
We study the response of a two-dimensional ideal lattice as a random potential is smoothly turned on. The relaxation is controlled by non-linear instabilities, showing that the newground state is not analytically connected to the ideal-lattice configuration. However, the long-range translational order decays only slowly in a way consistent with algebraic behaviour.
