Abstract

The effect of particle strength distribution and particle clustering on particle inhibited grain growth in two dimensions is examined by a vertex dynamics simulation. The limiting grain size resulting from a dual population can be estimated from the limiting grain size, which would result from each population taken separately. For a given particle density, the pinning efficiency is lower for a banded structure and even lower for a clustered structure.
