Abstract

The effect of increasing intracellular levels of cAMP has been investigated on the PI response to stimulation of α₁-adrenoceptors in rat kidney. Stimulation of adenylate cyclase with forskolin or incubation with dibutyryl cAMP (dcAMP) inhibited noradrenaline (NA)-stimulated [³H]inositol phosphate (IP) accumulation. Forskolin did not alter the EC₅₀ to NA. No effect on NA-stimulated [³H]IP accumulation was seen with dibutyryl cGMP (dcGMP). The results suggest that hormones which produce alterations in cAMP levels influence α₁-adrenoceptor-mediated responses.
