Inconclusion: Co-living with shadows, grief, and decay

This chapter gathers the learnings from each chapter and brings them together to summarise the key aspects that compose the argument of designing homeliness. It reviews how the different ethnographic examples revealed homeliness in-the-making, both conceptually and practically. To discuss the tensions from which practices of care developed, the untidiness and inconclusiveness of the processes of designing homeliness, this chapter addresses the shadows, griefs, and decay that coexisted with the stories of revaluation. The chapter identifies the arguments that remain incomplete and open, which could inform future research. It closes with an agenda to advance collaborative, interdisciplinary, and intergenerational approaches for designing homeliness with practices of care, aimed at generating revaluing and wellbeing. This book ends with an invitation for readers to fill in the gaps to extend the practices and strengthen the conceptualisations of homeliness.
