'Reverse Beads': 3 porcelain necklaces, 42 x 1 x 1 cm each: {"}This new series of 6 necklaces is part of my ongoing research of the language and typology of the beaded necklace. These new pieces are made by moulding miscellaneous beads in order to replicate them in black porcelain clay. The use of this uniform material brings them together, the black colour makes the pieces appear as shadows or after-images of other necklaces. Colour is introduced between the beads to create rhythm and repetition, continuity and interruption. The forms of the beads fade into the background while the space between the beads becomes the focus of attention.{"} Four of these necklaces and three new ones in this series exhibited in solo exhibition '1488 Beads, 16 Colours, 7 Materials, 1 Ceiling', The National, Christchurch, New Zealand, 25 October 2016 to 19 November 2016. 'Figures': 6 porcelain necklaces, sizes vary approx 40 x 2 x 1 cm: {"}Whilst many contemporary jewellers aim for their practice to take on a language that is visually recognisable (a style) my research of generic jewellery types is process based and takes on different appearances depending on the chosen material and method of making. 'Figures' extends my research of the visual language and materiality of archetypal jewellery forms, more specifically the beaded necklace. The innovation in this work is in the making process that I have developed over a period of time, getting the material (porcelain clay) to take on twisted and folded shapes that mimic natural forms and materials that have been used traditionally to make beaded necklaces.{"} Five of these necklaces and a second iteration of this work exhibited in solo exhibition '1488 Beads, 16 Colours, 7 Materials, 1 Ceiling', The National, Christchurch, New Zealand, 25 October 2016 to 19 November 2016. Two of the 'Figures' necklaces nominated for the Mari Funaki Award For Contemporary Jewellery 2016 and exhibited as part of 'Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery', Gallery Funaki, Melbourne, Australia, 24 August 2016 to 24 September 2016. ; In Order of Appearance ; Conference date: 30-01-2016 Through 19-03-2016",
