Hyperaspis brunnescens Dobzhansky is newly recorded in Canada and eastern North America from a storm-petrel burrow on Scatarie Island, Nova Scotia. This record extends the range of the species 2,100 km to the east. Hypotheses with respect to the ecology of the species are discussed, as are possible zoogeographic scenarios that might account for its presence in Nova Scotia.
