Abstract

Access to high-cost medicines is a fundamental human right, but often patients do not have access to these medicines and their use comes at a high price. This chapter explores patients’ access to high-cost medicines in different parts of the world, particularly in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. The chapter discusses the affordability and strategies to improve access to high-cost medicines. Several studies included in the chapter have demonstrated that there are huge variations in pricing and coverage policies between countries impacting on access.
