Abstract
This contribution attempts a first stock-taking of the closer connection forged in discourses around 1600 between the topos of the hero and the concept of fiction. The timeframe is carefully selected as the situation around 1500 and again 1800 present a tangible contrast to the situation around 1600. I will not suggest here a remarkable historical shift in the wider context of the history of ideas, but I do want to note the conflations of the topos of the hero with the concept of fiction as they are orchestrated between anthropological and literary deliberations first around 1600 and start shaping from then on our understanding of an ‘intensified subjectivity’ as part of the modern process of individuation.
