Health-Promoting Activities of Coriander Fixed Oil

Abstract

Coriandrum sativum L., commonly known as coriander, is an annual herb used for seasoning in cooking and in Ayurvedic medicine as a therapeutic. Coriander is rich in micronutrients and phenolics, which provide its therapeutic potential. Coriander fixed oil is mainly extracted from the coriander seeds. Different extraction methods rendered variance in the amount of fixed oil content obtained from the extraction. The primary fatty acids in coriander seed are petroselinic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and palmitic acid. Both in vitro and in vivo studies reported the health-promoting potential of coriander fixed oil in lifestyle-related modifiable disorders.
