N1 - 'Pearl Grey' Size: 16 x 16 x 4 cm Medium: Beaded necklace + saucer: ceramic + diverse beads, cast, hand modeled and found beads. Exegesis: "Pearl Grey" is a work that is part of my ongoing exploration of the classical pearl necklace, undermining or transforming it's appearance by translating it's standard format though different materials and processes. In this case the classical graded beads are merged with the handle of a teacup and a saucer, referring to the way this jewellery piece is part of everyday life and both public as well as private rituals. The different appearances of graded bead necklaces is reflected in the combination of a range of handmade porcelain beads with existing found beads of plastic, wood, glass and real pearls. Subsequently shown: 'Jewellery unleashed', 4 November 2011 to 6 February 2012, Museum of Modern Art, Arnhem, The Netherlands. 'Re:construction' Size: 34 x 1,5 x 1 cm per necklace Medium: 4 Necklaces, cast porcelain Exegesis: "Re:construction" is a series of cast porcelain necklaces that are a continuation of my attempts to materialise negative space, reverse forms, or show the insides of objects through different materials and processes. For this work I used a number of moulds that together formed a cast of a beaded necklace, to pour porcelain in to in layers of different colours, resulting in hollow shapes that look like a crosssection of a necklace, showing the thread that is usually hidden inside the beads as a clear visual element of the work. 'Perles d'Artiste' Size: 35 x 2 x 1,5 cm per necklace Medium: 5 necklaces, porcelain hand modeled Exegesis: For this exhibition I produced a series of new porcelain necklaces in which I explored the possibilities of modeling the material by hand in a very methodical way, which evolved in 5 necklaces of which the bead shapes have been formed subsequently with 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 fingers. With each step the shape becomes more complex; the resulting elementary forms are like a hand made version of the platonic solids. Some of the bead shapes are reminiscent of materials that were traditionally used to make beaded necklaces like teeth and bones. Subsequently shown: 'Artefacts of Life', 20 October to 12 November 2011, Platina Stockholm AB, Stockholm, Sweden 'Temporary Stedelijk 2', 11 June to 19 October 2011, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 'Below Sea Level Jewellery from the Netherlands', 17 January to 17 March 2013, Galleri Format Oslo, Oslo, Norway 'White Heat', 9 August to 20 August 2013, travelling exhibition, Gaffa, Sydney, NSW, Australia This work was acquired by the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, NSW in 2016.
