    Abstract

This book critically analyses the recent rise of mixed blood/race (haafu) celebrities in Japan by situating it in the historical context since the early twentieth century. It examines the historical trajectory of racialized discourses on mixed blood and its West-centredness, cultural politics of diverse naming, the feminized representation of mixed blood in film and girl s comic, the negative representation of masculine mixed-ness in the news report, the intersection of international mobility and the cultural politics of mixed blood and invisible mixed blood between Japanese and Koreans . The book also includes the in-depth interview with seventeen haafu people in Japan. This book comprehensively examines the hitherto under-researched issues of haafu in Japan and offers innovative perspectives for the study of mixed race, which has been dominated by American and British experiences.
