Abstract

In general, PCI is the treatment of choice (grade A recommendation), but only if: • it can be performed promptly; and • it is performed by appropriately gualified interventional cardiologists in an appropriate facility. When PCI is not promptly available, fibrinolytic therapy should be used. See Boxes 4 and 6 for simplified algorithms to direct decision making based on these parameters in the hospital and prehospital settings, respectively.
