Graduate research supervision: Does economics and econometrics have the potential to provide greater satisfaction?

Research output: Contribution to journalArticleResearchpeer-review

Abstract

A recent survey of PhD students at a large Australian university ranked the Departments of Econometrics and Economics first and fourth, respectively, with regard to quality of supervision and departmental support. In this paper I present my personal views on good practice in PhD supervision. I then argue that the disciplines of econometrics and economics make, it easier for students to find satisfaction in their doctoral research work. Hence, the above rankings have a logical explanation.
