Abstract

This chapter examines the persistent gender disparities in technology entrepreneurship and analyzes their implications for global innovation and economic growth. Despite increased STEM participation rates, women remain significantly underrepresented among technology startup founders, indicating substantial untapped potential in the innovation ecosystem. Through a review of extant literature, this chapter explains the current stage of women’s tech entrepreneurship and the multifaceted challenges facing women technology entrepreneurs. The chapter also highlights six strategic sectors for women’s tech entrepreneurship, including femtech and female biotech; climate technology; educational technology; agricultural technology; artificial intelligence, blockchain, and robotics; and space technology. It also showcases the transformative potential of gendered innovations. Women in technology entrepreneurship represent an underutilized opportunity for global innovation, and it is imperative to close the gender gap in this domain.
