    Abstract

    While there has been considerable research on transformational leadership in schools in recent times, in most instances studies have mostly focussed on principals and the powerful infl uence provided through their leadership. Despite this, these studies have also indicated the importance of developing middle -level school leaders and the need for designed-in structures to support the development of organisational capability from the middle out.
