From English to Englishes: changes in college English textbooks for Chinese students

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter (Book)Research

Abstract

In this paper, I shall compare the two college English textbook series, namely 'New Horizon College English' and 'College English', described and account for the changes in terms of texts and contexts of English Language Teaching (ELT) in Chinese universities over the past thirty years. I will draw on theories of World Englishes, and argue that in comparison with 'College English', which consists exclusively of texts of British or American English, 'New Horizon College English' provides Chinese students with a wider exposure to World Englishes.
