Abstract

A phase contrast technique is usually performed to obtain velocity images of the heart and vessels. In this sequence, flow-encoding gradients are used to translate the velocity of the magnetization into a phase in the image. The most common flow-encoding gradient is a bipolar velocity-encoding gradient.
