Abstract
A region of magma mingling and mixing, containing magmatic sulfide
mineralization, within a magmatic arc cross section in Hokkaido, Japan, is examined to explore the consequences of chemical equilibration between mantle-derived arc basalts and crust-derived graphite-bearing tonalites. Reduction of oxidized arc basalt, driven by buffering with contaminant graphite, is shown to be a viable mechanism for causing sulfide oversaturation.
