Abstract
Sport is part of (some might say central to) the social, economic and political fabric of Victoria. It is not surprising therefore that disputes concerning its governance and regulation have come before the Supreme Court and, in turn, have found their way into the Victorian Reports. This chapter reflects on a selection of cases that illustrate the role of the courts in shaping sports’ evolution from amateur to professional, and whose legacies are still being felt today.
