Abstract

Trace analysis of food contaminants, pathogens, or the presence of undesirable compounds, investigation of the ongoing concern of food fraud (e.g., adulteration, mislabeling, unapproved enhancement, and substitution of lower quality ingredients), and discovery or improved understanding of potential bioactive compounds with health benefits and food safety are a few examples that demonstrate the necessity for robust food analysis. The application of advanced analytical gas chromatographic techniques provides an expanded capability to profile the chemical composition and respond to emerging global topics in food analysis.
