Abstract

Experienced leaders face challenges that demand different leadership approaches to those of inexperienced leaders. The purposes of this article are to: (1) explore the leadership initiatives prominent for experienced leaders compared with inexperienced leaders; (2) examine the relationship between transformational leadership and these initiatives; and (3) enhance the transformational model by examining it in terms of instructional leadership and the three meta dimensions of mission-centred, performance-centred, and culture-centred leadership in relation to the key initiatives. The contributions of principal leadership to innovative workplace outcomes and the implications of these findings for research and practice are also examined.
