The use of audiovisual media as a research tool is gaining increasing importance in academic research and offers a valid alternative to other more "traditional" representations such as writing (Banks and Morphy 1997, Banks 2001, Pink 2006). Audiovisual applications cover a broad spectrum and integrate various phases of research: documentation, analysis, representation, education, outreach, etc. (van Leeuwen and Jewitt 2000, Pink 2007 Rose 2012, Pink 2012). In this paper we propose some reflections from our experience using the audiovisual medium in our research of the border between Zamora (Spain) and Trás-os-Montes (Portugal). From the critical review of the videos, we address some of the major debates surrounding the use of audiovisual media as a research tool and ethnographic representation.
