Abstract
The use of audiovisual media as a research tool is gaining increasing importance in academic research and offers a valid alternative to other more "traditional" representations such as writing (Banks and Morphy 1997, Banks 2001, Pink 2006). Audiovisual applications cover a broad spectrum and integrate various phases of research: documentation, analysis, representation, education, outreach, etc. (van Leeuwen and Jewitt 2000, Pink 2007 [2001] Rose 2012, Pink 2012). In this paper we propose some reflections from our experience using the audiovisual medium in our research of the border between Zamora (Spain) and Trás-os-Montes (Portugal). From the critical review of the videos, we address some of the major debates surrounding the use of audiovisual media as a research tool and ethnographic representation.
