Abstract
An experimental reactor, with several unique features, for studying liquid phase organic oxidations is described. Preliminary experimental results for the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone are presented. It is shown that existing correlations for predicting mass transfer coefficients are unreliable. The data suggests the possibility of mass transfer limitation even in uncatalyzed oxidation of cyclohexane. This has obvious effects on the selectivity of the reaction.
