Abstract

The Chatham Islands archipelago is located 860km east of the South Island, New Zealand, and is situated on the eastern edge of the partially submerged continental plateau, the Chatham Rise. The group comprises two main islands, Chatham and Pitt, and a smaller set of islets, which have preserved a geologic record since the Permian.
