N2 - This chapter explores the historicity of geographical pedagogies from ancient Greece to current times. This evolution of pedagogical development is established by identifying key influencers of geographical pedagogical practices according to critical development periods that correspond to civilization’s general development. An analysis of geography’s pedagogical landscape and the sociological and psychological fields revealed four pedagogical domains (societal, classroom, knowledge, and thinking) along a continuum. Threading through this continuum are three signature pedagogies (fieldwork, information communication technologies, and inquiry-based practices). Five pedagogical principles (personal interest, respectful productivity, learning independence, intellectual extension, and reflection) guide a teacher’s reasoning contexts for their students using integrated fluid pedagogical practices.
