Effect of the paper structure and composition on the surface sizing pickup

Abstract

A series of papers, varying in terms of basis weight, internal sizing, and filler content, were characterized and surface sized using a laboratory pond press. Starch concentration was varied, while the other surface sizing conditions were kept constant. Results highlight the role played by internal structure and composition.
