Abstract
The performance of a photonic bandgap (PBG) 50-ohm transmission line on different dielectric substrates was investigated. A commercial software PCAAD was used to evaluate the approximate effective value of the dielectric constant and the width of the standard 50-ohm transmission line corresponding to different substrates. The amplitudes of all the PBG elements for all cases were determined taking optimum filling factor (FF) of 0.25. It was concluded that the investigation can offer a wider scope to a PBG designer to choose the substrates for a particular application of PBGS in different microwave components and devices.
