N2 - This report was commissioned by SP AusNet, an energy distribution business in Victoria, Australia. Like many distribution businesses, SP AusNet faces the challenge of providing a high reliability of electricity supply with an increasingly peaked load profile. This challenge is made particularly difficult during very hot days, where, between the hours of 4:00pm and 8:00pm, the widespread use of air conditioners places significant load on their network. These few days dictate a significant portion of the investment in infrastructure required to provide reliable supply hence there is a significant motivation to reduce electricity consumption during these key times.
