Abstract

The DUE GlobAEROSOL project aims to provide a unified global aerosol data set from European satellite instruments: ATSR-2, AATSR, MERIS and SEVIRI. The AERONET has been used to provide a preliminary validation of aerosol optical depth retrieved from one month of ATSR-2, AATSR and SEVIRI data, using the Oxford-RAL Aerosol and Cloud (ORAC) retrieval scheme. The results show that aerosol optical depth at 550 nm can be retrieved a precision of approximately 0.1 over the ocean and 0.25 over land, although results from AATSR show a consistent bias of approximately 0.3 in the 550 nm optical depth for most stations.
