Abstract

Rationally designed DNA nanostructures are becoming increasingly complex. This article provides a detailed description of the fundamental concepts behind a variety of different static and dynamic DNA nanotechnologies. Various intelligent DNA biosensors are examined along with the fabrication and application of DNA hydrogels, pores and origami. A variety of dynamic DNA systems capable of mechanical motion are also presented. The functional principals behind dynamic DNA nanostructures such actuators, gears, DNA assembly lines and intelligent drug delivery vehicles are presented along with emerging trends in each of these areas.
