Abstract

In this paper, the multi-time slot economic dispatch (MTSED) problem for power transmission networks with a group of synchronous generators and energy storage units is investigated. The objectives of the MTSED problem to be studied are twofold. First, it is to optimally coordinate the active power produced by synchronous generators and active power sent to/drawn from energy storage units to meet a certain net load demand profile over a finite time horizon. Second, it is to enforce physical constraints on the active power of all controllable units, ramping rates of generators, energy stored in storage units, and power flows along transmission lines. A distributed projection-based algorithm which only relies on local information, computation, and peer-to-peer communication between cyber-connected buses is proposed to solve the MTSED problem. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
