Abstract

In this work, the interpretations made by Kabula et al. of their experiments on the formation of austenite from coarse aggregates of cementite in ferrite are addressed. Alternate interpretations are given concerning their views that: austenite allotriomorphs form by a reconstructive mechanism; austenite laths form by a martensitic mechanism; and the two new mechanisms they devised to reduce the temperature are viable.
