Abstract
Conventional dc, conventional ac, rapid dc, rapid ac, inverse dc, and inverse ac polarographic methods for the determination of tin(IV) have been investigated. Hydrochloric acid has been found to be a suitable supporting electrolyte for all methods. Analytical use in this media is made of the Sn(II) ⇋ Sn(0) electrode reaction at the mercury electrode. Conventional ac polarography is recommended as the best method for the determination of tin(IV) in the concentration range 10-3-10-6M. Inverse ac polarography (ac anodic stripping analysis) is recommended for trace analysis in the concentration range 10-6-10-8M. Detailed discussion, limitations, sensitivities, and various characteristics of each of the six methods are given.
