Abstract
In this article, the influence of the Interim Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Act 200 of 1993, on Indigenous Law, specifically the lobolo-custom, is investigated. A study is made of the ilobolo/bogadi-custom, its original form and functions, how it has changed and been adapted in changing circumstances and the compatibility of this custom with the new South African legal dispensation.
