Abstract

John Dewey (1859-1952) was a well-known American philosopher and public figure. Although Dewey initially adopted an idealist philosophy, which he integrated with Christian religious beliefs, he later became one of the founders of pragmatism. Dewey's pragmatism led him to abandon organized religion and, instead, develop a naturalistic and humanistic account of religious experience and faith.
