Abstract

the bumper is one of the most important parts for vehicles, and the application of the advanced high strength steels (AHSS) is the most effective method to the lightweighting auto bodies. In this paper, the research of AHSS parts with roll forming and sweeping technology to develop the typical open symmetric section is performed. By finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation, the studies on the characteristics, and main force and power parameters of the AHSS roll forming process have been carried out for achieving the optimized process design. The historic process of longitudinal strain of symmetric section , and the mechanisms that cause the defects of sweeping, have been analyzed. The novel 3-station sweeping (curving) method has been disclosed. As the result, the study has provided the technical support for roll forming process in applications of AHSS.
