Determination of anti-symmetric end-loadings from volumetric stress on lateral surface of a rectangular bar

This work is concerned with relating the anti-symmetric tractions at the end of a rectangular bar to the volumetric stress on the lateral surface. The Galerkin functions expanded in terms of infinite series are used to satisfy the three-dimensional free surface boundary conditions except for the ends where tractions equivalent to bending are applied. Results are displayed graphically and can be used in conjunction with the thermal emission technique to check the surface volumetric stress field. The formulation applies in general to other end loading.
