Abstract

Two dual-polarized aperture coupled microstrip patch antennas with high isolation and cross-polarization at Ku-band (18.7 GHz) are investigated. For both antennas, different slot and feed structures are designed and fabricated. One design shows higher isolation (greater than 50 dB) with back-lobe radiation (front to back lobe ratio more than 10 dB) and another design shows relatively low isolation (greater that 25 dB) with the low back-lobe ratio (lower than 6 dB). Both designs are suitable for array synthesis to use in an 8 × 8 element soil moisture radiometer. In details, design and experimental results are presented and analysed.
