Abstract

DC micro grids are superior over alternating current (AC) micro grids in consistency, competence, simplicity, combination of renewable energy system (RES), and connection of direct current (DC) loads. The DC micro grids are more advantageous for distribution system because of its good efficiency. Although a good protection system is the main problem for DC micro grid. Currently, many papers on DC micro grid are concentrated on topology structure, control system, and energy control method, but the papers on this does not focus on analysis of fault, detecting fault, and isolating the detected fault. In this chapter, the main problems faced with DC micro grid protection systems are examined from many features such as the characteristics of fault current, grounding system, fault locating system. For all listed sections, a complete summary has been provided. Lastly, recommendations on DC micro grid protection system are clearly stated. For now, to briefly compute problems on protection system and encourage the expansion of DC micro grid, this chapter sorts out the main ideas on future papers.
