Abstract

Accurate monitoring of road safety performance outcomes from arrive alive 2008-2017 requires robust data systems to underpin the monitoring process. The establishment of appropriate data systems would allow assessment of the strategy to meet its ambitious targets including a 30% reduction in deaths and serious injuries. This project addressed a number specific aims in relation to these requirements including: To review the current MUARC road safety Countermeasure Monitor System and provide recommendations on key intermediate outcome measures that should be collected to enhance road safety performance monitoring in Victoria; to develop a specification for a linked database of TAC claims and Police crash reports for both monitoring Victorian road safety performance and as a base research database; and to determine a robust measure of serious injury that can be applied to the linked database to be used for monitoring serious injury trends from road crashes in Victoria.
