Abstract
We demonstrate experimentally that intensity noise caused by optical feedback to a Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser can be suppressed by digital modulation, and that this suppression is bit-rate dependent We use a multimode rate equation model of the laser to explain the mechanism for the bit-rate dependence of the suppression. We conclude that, if the delay time of the reflected light is much greater than the modulation bit period, the intensity noise is suppressed.
