Abstract

After defining the concept of cultural nationalism, this entry compares cultural nationalism and state/political nationalism with regard to their respective emphasis on the function and significance of culture and state in nation building and survival, together with an explanation of the function and potential of cultural nationalism in supporting national subsistence and prosperity in a globalized world. Then the entry looks at a brief case study of cultural nationalism in contemporary China to further illustrate its most recent development in the biggest developing country and economic superpower in the world.
