Abstract

The authors regret that the published version of the paper was a draft submitted without final oversight and approval of the lead author. The paper should then be read in conjunction with the following Corrigendum. – In Section 1, end of first paragraph, add “OBrien et al. [32] use single-lane traffic simulations to identify critical traffic states for long-span bridge loading, whereas Caprani et al. [7] extend the work to multi-lane simulations.”– In Section 1, last line but one, replace “multiple lane roadways” with “lane layout”.– In Section 3, in order to clarify the analytical formulation and address some inconsistencies in the notation, the following symbol explanations replace or complement those in the paper:[Table presented] – In Section 3.2, line 5, replace “availability” with “available capacity”.– In Section 3.2, replace Equation (5) with:[Formula presented]following the above notation.– In Section 3.2, line 8 of paragraph 3, replace “N” with “Nt”.– In Section 4.1, replace Equation (9) with:[Formula presented]– In Section 4.2, line 3 of last paragraph, add “or Caprani et al. [7]” at end of sentence.– In Section 4.4, line 9, delete “within a narrow range”.– In Section 4.6, line 1, replace “nink” with “ninq”.– In Section 5.2, line 1, replace “load” with “loads”.– In Section 5.2, last line but one of paragraph 2, replace “available capacity axis, explained in Section 4.5” with “axes, explained in Sections 4.4 and 4.5”.– In Section 5.3, line 2 of paragraph 2, replace “a very strong morning peak (case 1, Fig. 6(a)), and a flat pattern (case 2, Fig. 6(b))” with “strongly peaked in the morning (Fig. 6(a)), and flat (Fig. 6(b))”.– In Section 5.3, line 12 of paragraph 3, replace “As will be shown in Section 5.5” with “As shown in Lipari [27]”.– In Section 5.4, the formula for the Standard Extremal Variate (SEV), reported for clarity here, is:[Formula presented]– In Section 5.4, line 4 of paragraph 2, and in Tables 5, 6, 7 and 9, replace “Figs. 4 and 5” with “Figs. 5 and 6”.– In Section 5.5, line 7, replace “(this is equivalent to a shrinking of the y-axis in Fig. 8)” with “as it needs to be taken at a greater SEV in Fig. 8”.– In Section 5.5, replace last paragraph with “Further analyses were undertaken and details are given in Lipari [27]. These confirm the importance of full stop conditions at low flows with high truck percentage.”– In Section 6, delete paragraph 2 from line 3 (“It is found that…“).– In Section 6, line 6 of paragraph 3, replace “Even though infrequent” with “Even though full stop rates are found to lie in a relatively small range and to be much lower than those used in previous bridge loading studies”.The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to the editor, publisher and readers.
