Abstract
The Cook Islands is made up of 15 islands and atolls lying in the South Pacific Ocean, south of Hawaii and west of Tahiti. Spread across a zone of nearly 2 million km2, they comprise a total land area of only 240 km2. The Cook Islands is a self-governing nation with a population of approximately 15,000 people. Tourism is the major income source for the Cook Islands, with no major export or other income potential.
