Abstract
TiO2 crystallizes in a least seven modifications encompassing several major structure types including those of rutile, hollandite, and PbO2. A fundamental building block (FBB) approach has been adapted in order to understand better the relationships between these structures. The identification of common structural elements provides insights into possible phase transformation mechanisms as well as the weathering reactions that convert perovskite (CaTiO3) to TiO2 anatase and TiO2 (B). -from Authors
